Little Blossom Montessori school
General
Depending on the age, in Little Blossom Montessori School classrooms learning is very individualized and self paced. Children, under the direction of a qualified Montessori teacher, are engaged in a variety of activities designed to develop concentration, attention, coordination, and a logical, ordered and sequential thought process. Each classroom activity is executed from beginning to end with careful attention to the accuracy of sequence and process in six basic and interrelated curriculum areas: Practical Life, Language, Sensorial, Mathematics, Geography, and Science.
Each day the child experiences group lessons, singing, and movement as well as substantial time for independent, uninterrupted work. Snack preparation, self toileting, care of the environment, outdoor play, and gross motor activities round out the daily experience. The classroom becomes a home away from home where children feel secure knowing their physical and emotional needs will be met and they are confident to attempt new and exciting challenges. Younger children (2 to 3 year olds) can select for less time at the school. i.e. possibly a 3 half day program. But for older children from 4 to 6, they will need more time at school i.e. at least 8:30 AM to 3 PM to experience more advanced materials to learn.
Toddler Program for 2 to 3 year old (Half Day)
(9 AM to 12:00 PM or 12:30 PM to 3 PM)
Little Blossom Montessori School's program is designed to meet the specific developmental needs of the ever inquisitive two year old. It is our belief that children learn best by doing; therefore the environment is set up to allow maximum participation in classroom life. During the two-year-old year children develop a new awareness of themselves as separate, unique people and they begin a new quest for independence. Our teachers respond to this need by not rushing to entertain or control the children, but rather quietly give lessons and redirect children who are struggling. Low shelves house a variety of appealing exercises for the child to explore independently. These materials offer a variety of choices to encourage decision making by choosing the “work” that calls to the child’s particular sensitive period.
Montessori Pre Primary for 3 year old (Half Day
(8:30 AM to 12:00 PM or 12:30 PM to 3 PM)
Little Blossom Montessori School’s primary classrooms has their order and beauty. Each classroom contains natural wooden shelves full of materials organized to aid children as they work toward their fullest potential. Each classroom bears the distinguishing marks of children and adults working together to create a beautiful environment for learning.
Children in primary environments work with materials designed to strengthen their fine and gross motor skills, to organize their intellects, and to expand their knowledge. Most children graduate from primary classrooms reading fluently and writing legibly. Primary curriculum includes studies in mathematics, language, geography, music & art, social studies, science & biology. The Montessori primary curriculum includes and typically extends well beyond traditional kindergarten programs. Children remain in the primary classroom at least three years, until their sixth birthday, and benefit from the cumulative effects of the primary curriculum. When he graduates from the primary classroom, each child has acquired self-confidence, internal motivation, self-discipline and a great love of learning.
Montessori Pre Primary for 4,5 & 6 year old (Half day)
(8:30 AM to 3:00 PM).
Little Blossom Montessori School Extended Day program is open to children who are no longer napping. Typically, children join the Extended Day class after their fourth birthday, but it is not unusual for teachers to invite a child to join sooner. All children in the primary class must begin staying until 3 PM by the time they are 4 years old. The Extended Day class offers children opportunities to extend their concentration, to work cooperatively within a group of peers, and to begin working with more advanced and detailed academic materials. Children in the Extended Day class eat lunch together in their classroom. They learn to prepare their tables using plates, cloth napkins and utensils. Children share quiet conversation as they eat, and work together to clean the tables and dishes when the meal is complete.
This program has been carefully designed with the help of the North American Montessori Teachers Association for children ages 3, 4, 5 and 6 who require extended care for more than our half day Montessori for Preschool experience. The children who enroll in the Extended Day program will find that it is an extension of their home environment. After the three-hour Montessori / Preschool morning cycle, either the children play outside in our beautiful outdoor environment.
Montessori Pre Primary for 3,4,5 & 6 year old (Full day)
7:00 AM to – 6:00 PM
All-day Montessori preschool provides a house for children who stay for a full day (7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.). In the all-day program, the children live in a community which has, both a Montessori prepared environment which includes room for all-day activities such as cooking, meal preparation and serving, play and exercise, napping, art activities, and creative dramatics. Because the children spend more time in the Montessori environment, the all-day Montessori program follows a slower pace with greater exploration of Montessori activities than does the half-day morning program. The activities include art, science, stories, cooking, movement, games, and fun.
Afternoons at the Little Blossom Montessori School are filled with excitement. The afternoons are filled with recreational activities designed to build social skills, sportsmanship, and special interests. Afternoons have been carefully designed to allow plenty of opportunity to explore a wide variety of interests! Our students have the opportunity to join special interest classes.
Third year children have grown from being newcomers to “upper classmen.” Other children look up to them and even ask them for lessons. Most are writing well, and many are beginning to read. These abilities plus their knowledge about the room and its activities makes them indispensable to their companions and they become confident in what they do.
Montessori Kindergarten for 5 & 6 year olds
7:00 AM to – 6:00 PM
Kindergarten children accumulate a great deal of experience which allows them to become very creative with their work. First or second year students use Montessori building materials to understand size differentiation; now they can use these same materials to make complex patterns. As younger students they could learn about science through observation or by using materials; now they can write about their experiences.
The Kindergarten year is the final year of the pre-school program. It is a very exciting, challenging and rewarding time for all the children! Most have spent two years building skills and learning their way around the class. They have formed friendships and developed a wide base of knowledge in each area of the classroom.
At Little Blossom Montessori School the Kindergarten program includes additional time for these children to work and learn as a group. After the younger children go home, they come together from all the classes, eat lunch, and then spend the next hour and a half in activities which enrich their learning and help prepare them for elementary school. This special time also gives them many opportunities to work with a partner or in a group. Together they may create a science project, or write and perform a play. At the completion of Kindergarten these students go on to the elementary classroom with confidence.
